Henri Marret |
In 1902 Henri Marret made a journey in Morocco. When he executes this painting in 1905 Marret is a young artist who is only 27 years old.
This oil evokes the boarding of bulls aboard a merchantman in the natural harbour of Tangier ( Morocco ). In a rough sea, the artist sets with strength the mechanical power of the smoking cargo boat and the fight of the rowers against elements to join the cargo boat.
In 1905 during his visit of the French Artists Exhibition in Paris, count Edward Aleksander Raczynski goes buyer of this work presented by Henri Marret (oil registered n°1286 ). This painting is intended to be exposed in his " Gallery of the Polish and European modern painting ".
Nowadays this work belongs to the Foundation of the Raczynski family by the Poznan National Museum, and is displayed in one room of the Rogalin Palace, which is part of the National Museum |
